Holiday Spirit - 4 Ways to Get in the Mood

Another holiday season is upon us. And if you are anything like me, you are already feeling overwhelmed about the next couple months. Every year I see the picture perfect Norman Rockwell Christmas. It never seems to works out exactly like that. This year can be different, if we choose for it to be. Here’s four ways to feel the true holiday spirit and get in the mood of the season.

1.       Plan ahead of time – and by that I mean, plan now. Before the holidays are upon us, decide what is important for you andyour family. What do you want to emphasize for the holidays?

§          Do you want to run around like a mad man or be relaxed and feel refreshed and renewed this year?
§          Do you want to contribute time, money, or energy to a worthwhile charity?
§          What do you want your children to get out of the Season? Do you want them to get, get, get or to give, give, give – or, maybe, a little of both?
§          Do you want to travel and get away from the snow or stay home and enjoy the cold, crisp winter air by sledding with the kids, skiing, baking cookies, or sitting by the fire?

Wow, so many choices. Decide how you want to spend your precious time, then sit down with the family and find out their ideas for the holidays.

2.       Adopt a Charity – All times of the year, we are bombarded with requests for assistance. The holiday season is the perfect opportunity to consider a charity. We, at Massage Connection, have adopted Ashley’s Hope.   We are collecting non-perishable food items, gift cards, and cash for local families with children with long-term illnesses. Please consider helping us help Ashley’s Hope.

3.       Stick to a budget – time and money budgets. Be reasonable about what to expect from yourself, your spouse, your children.

4.       Relax and enjoy. And if something goes awry, as we all know it will, then roll with it. Nothing ever seems to go as planned. We cannot predict the weather or our child’s temperament (or our spouses, for that matter).

As I remember the Christmases of my childhood, they all seemed so perfect - lots of decorating, baking, and playing in the snow. It did all seem so Norman Rockwell to me, I loved it! I’m sure if you asked my Mom and Dad, they’d just grin and let me keep thinking that.

So keep the real meaning of the holidays in mind – the meaning of Your holidays, not what others expect, by planning and budgeting time and money. Consider helping a charity in some way and then relax and enjoy yourself and your family. Have a wonderful, warm, and relaxing holiday season!
